Stand on top of the Viking castle Borgring and enjoy the view of the landscape - as Harald Bluetooth would have done.
In Udsigten you get the overview – in more ways than one. Take the steps to the top of the museum and let your gaze drift out over the landscape. Here, from Harald Bluetooth's perspective, the world opens up to you: flat meadows, winding streams – and in the middle of it all: Borgring.
For a moment, you can feel what it must have been like to stand as king and designate the place for the beginning of a new era.
Borgring was not placed here by chance. In the Viking Age there were no bridges – only fords. This was where people crossed the river. Here, where roads met. And here, where Harald chose to build his ringfort – not where it was easy, but where most people could see it. A monument placed with surgical precision in the middle of the kingdom's traffic arteries.
Before you head towards the castle, stay here for a while. Listen to the landscape. See, understand and feel how it speaks when you look out and see the landscape with Harald's eyes. You sense the logic behind his choice. And you notice that Borgring was never just a building.
It was a message.
A vision.
A turning point.
