THE KING'S HALL

Around the year 963, King Harald Bluetooth decides that the Danes must be Christians. Shortly afterwards, he builds the monumental ring castles. Step into the Royal Hall and experience one of the most defining moments in Danish history.

In 2023, Denmark received its newest World Heritage Site: Harald Bluetooth's five monumental ring castles – including Borgring – were included in UNESCO's list of the world's most important cultural heritage sites. In the UNESCO Hall, you will get the story behind it all.

In Udsigten you get the overview – in more ways than one. Take the steps to the top of the museum and let your gaze drift out over the landscape. Here, from Harald Bluetooth's perspective, the world opens up to you: flat meadows, winding streams – and in the middle of it all: Borgring.

THE CONGESTION

Before you reach Borgring, the story begins beneath your feet. On Kongestien, you are taken on a journey through Harald Bluetooth's visions, the reality of the Viking Age and the gigantic work that went into its construction.

CIRCULAR

When you stand on Borgring, you are in the middle of an archaeological mystery. Here once stood an enormous circular Viking castle, built by Harald Bluetooth around the year 980, as part of his grandiose plans for a united, Christian Denmark... And then it disappeared. Almost without a trace.

UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE

The five Danish ring castles - Borgring, Aggersborg, Fyrkat, Nonnebakken and Trelleborg - were included on UNESCO's World Heritage List on September 17, 2023.

The recording took place at the annual World Committee Congress, which was held in 2023 in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh.

In Lellinge, just outside Køge, you will find the Viking fortress Borgring - Denmark's new Viking museum. Here you can experience the story of Harald Bluetooth's ring fortresses.

Look forward to being taken back to a time when one faith replaced another. Where at least half a millennium of worship of the Norse gods was replaced with the new god from the south: Christ.
