Learn more about UNESCO and how Borgring, along with the other ring forts, was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023.
In 2023 it happened. After seven years of intense work, piles of documentation and nail-biting excitement, Denmark received its newest world heritage: Harald Bluetooth's five monumental ring castles – including Borgring – were included on UNESCO's prestigious list of the world's most important cultural heritage sites.
In the UNESCO hall you will get the story behind it all. Here you will learn why the castles are something very special – not just for Denmark, but for the whole world. You will gain insight into what it really means to become part of humanity's common heritage, how the list came about, which other places are on the list, and what requirements are set for inclusion.
UNESCO's World Heritage List is not just a place of honor - it is a promise. A promise to protect places that have unique significance for all of us. On the list you will find everything from the Pyramids of Giza to Machu Picchu in Peru and the Taj Mahal in India. And now also: the Danish ringforts.
