Look forward to learning more about the power that is always associated with a castle in the POWER exhibition at the Danish Castle Center. From kings to queens, churches, weapons, jewelry and much more.
This was where the royal family stayed. This is where expeditions were planned from. And this is where historic agreements were made with powerful allies.
In the Middle Ages, Vordingborg was the center of power, and it was here that some of the most significant kings and queens in Danish history ruled.
The exhibition tells the story of a time of witch trials and persecutions, depicted through Bartskær's unique written accounts and authentic witness statements from the trials, and is illustrated by Jim Lyngvild, who, with the help of artificial intelligence, has recreated the events and brought the accused witches to life.
Vordingborg is perhaps best known as the city of kings, but in a series of powerful stories, Denmark's Castle Center tells the whole story of the queens' role in the game of castle and power for the first time ever.
Most people know the story of Margrethe I, and you may have even seen the beautiful frescoes and painted portraits of medieval queens. But who were they really, and what power did they have?
Look forward to meeting the queens Margrete 1st, Bengerd, Dagmar, Margrete Sprænghest and Sofia of Minsk and others, who all had their time at the castle in Vordingborg, through a series of strong portraits, staged by Jim Lyngvild, with inspiration drawn from the museum's archaeological and historical knowledge, Saxo's descriptions, other chronicles and motifs and depictions from the Middle Ages.
