THE OUTDOOR EXHIBITION SPACE

Designed by the architects Lundgaard & Tranberg, the Danish Castle Centre’s exhibition building is more than a structure – it is a meeting point between past and present, where contemporary architecture unfolds in harmony with deep history.

Unlike traditional museums, the building is carefully adapted to the protected heritage site and blends seamlessly into its surroundings. Much of it is embedded in the landscape and clad in corten steel, with a warm reddish-brown patina that echoes the red brick of Vordingborg Castle.

THE INDOOR EXHIBITION BUILDING

Inside, you enter a raw exhibition space with concrete walls and low, atmospheric lighting. Several walls feature large-scale graffiti works by the Norwegian street artist Pøbel, reinforcing the building’s rugged character and the exhibition’s surprising dialogue between past and present.

The exhibitions are brought to life through light projections on the walls, created by the light and video artists of Dark Matters. These projections enhance the storytelling and communicate what cannot be captured in words alone.
