Tour of Holmegaard Works

The story of Holmegaard is the story of Denmark's first female business leader, a small glass hut in a peat bog that grows into an enormous group. It is the story of the arrival of designers, the long and proud traditions of glassworkers, and how important this meeting and collaboration became.

In this tour you will hear about the history of the factory over almost 200 years; Where did all the glassblowers come from? When did design become part of the story? What did the children do at the factory? And how is the clear glass made?

Duration: Approximately 1 hour.

Guided tour of the glass city

The Holmegaard Værk experience begins before you even step foot into the glassworks itself. Like a soft border around the works lies the unique Glass Village. Here, since the works' very first productions, the workers have lived to be close to the glass furnaces.

On this tour you will tour the Glass Town and experience the atmosphere and cultural-historical environment. You will get up close to the first workers' homes, which at 200 years old are also the oldest buildings in the glassworks, and learn about life around a glassworks - with its own inn, grocery store, chapel and school.

Duration: Approximately 1 hour.

Introduction to special exhibition

Experience a unique meeting between two of Europe's most iconic glassworks: Venini on Murano and Holmegaard in Denmark, in the special exhibition 'VENINI — Murano x Holmegaard'.

The exhibition shows more than 100 original works by Paolo Venini and his famous collaborators – including Gio Ponti, Tobia Scarpa and Ken Scott – set in dialogue with Holmegaard's own masters such as Per Lütken, Anja Kjær and Torben Jørgensen.

Duration: Approximately 45 minutes.
