Guided tour at Holmegaard Works of Wonders

The story of Holmegaard is the story of Denmark’s first female business leader, of a small glassworks in a peat bog that grew into a major enterprise. It is the story of the arrival of designers, the long and proud traditions of the glassworkers, and how important this meeting and collaboration became.

On this guided tour, you’ll hear the story of the glassworks over nearly 200 years. Where did all the glassblowers come from? When did design become part of the story? What roles did children have at the glassworks? And how is clear glass actually made?

Duration: approx. 1 hour

Guided tour of the glass town

The experience of Holmegaard Works of Wonders begins even before you step inside the glassworks itself. Surrounding the site is the unique Glass Town, where workers have lived since the very first productions in order to stay close to the furnaces.

On this guided tour, you’ll explore the Glass Town and experience its atmosphere and rich cultural heritage. You’ll get up close to the original workers’ houses – now over 200 years old and among the oldest buildings at the glassworks – and gain insight into life in a factory town, complete with its own inn, general store, chapel and school.

Duration: approx. 1 hour

Introduction to the special exhibition

Experience a unique encounter between two of Europe’s most iconic glassworks – Venini on Murano and Holmegaard in Denmark – in the special exhibition VENINI — Murano x Holmegaard.

The exhibition presents more than 100 original works by Paolo Venini and his renowned collaborators, including Gio Ponti, Tobia Scarpa and Ken Scott, placed in dialogue with Holmegaard’s own masters such as Per Lütken, Anja Kjær and Torben Jørgensen.

Duration: approx. 45 minutes
