On shelves that tower an impressive seven meters into the air and are 40 meters wide, you are faced with 200 years of history – told in glass. The collection is one of the largest and most important in the Nordic region and contains more than 42,000 unique pieces of glass.

Take a look down through the exhibition of glass and ceramics and see if you can spot anything from your childhood. The glassware from Holmegaard and the ceramics from Kähler have been on the table for almost 200 years, and have crept into our homes as applied art, packaging glass and art.

It began with ceramics without any finer details – baking tins, milk jugs, jam jars and other unpretentious kitchenware. But as creative minds became associated with Kähler's workshop in Næstved, art crept into the ceramics.

Why are humans creative? Have we always been creative in the same way – and how does that help ensure our survival? We have put a Stone Age expert and an architecture professor opposite each other to discuss the matter.
