TOUR OF HOLMEGAARD WORKS
Location: Holmegaard Works
Price: 600 DKK per class
Duration: 1 hour
Target group: Can be adapted to grade level
Come on a tour of the glass town, the hut and the history of both glass and ceramics at Holmegaard Værk.
The story of Holmegaard is the story of Denmark's first female business leader, a small glass hut in a peat bog that grows into an enormous group. It is the story of the arrival of designers, the long and proud traditions of glassworkers, and how important this meeting and collaboration became.
Along the way you will hear about the history of the factory over almost 200 years; where did all the glassblowers come from? When did design become part of the story? What did the children do at the factory? And how is the clear glass made?
A tour filled with anecdotes from real life as a glassblower, life as a child in the glass town, the designers' meeting with the seasoned glassblowers and other fun and surprising quirks; for example, what was arsenic, uranium and lead used for in a glassworks?
Note: The course is only offered during the museum's opening hours.
