At Køge Museum we offer exciting courses that take you on a journey through the history of the town - from the Paleolithic to the heyday of the Vikings, and the busy life of a market town. All courses are taught by the museum's own skilled communicators.
Questions about school courses must be directed to the museum's teaching unit. You can contact the teaching unit at email undervisning@museerne.dk
In 2023 at Køge Museum, we recreated the grave of a possible viking sorceress, discovering originally in 2005 at Trekroner-Grydehøj near Roskilde.
When meeting the buried woman and her companions, many questions appear: Why do archaeologists believe that the woman was a viking sorceress? And what does that even mean? Which role did she play in contemporary viking society? And why as she found with her head separated from her body, and covered by heavy rocks?
Together we will explore these questions, and many other aspects of the mysterious find, expanding our understanding of the woman in the grave, and of burial practices in a broader perspective.
Duration: Approx. 1.5 hours
Price: 500 dkk per class
In this course at Køge Museum, we take a closer look at the viking-age sorceresses from the perspective of archaeological finds, an Icelandic saga, and 10 sisters said to be able to magically connect to the world of the gods.
The images created by Jim Lyngvild for the museum's exhibit will also be included in the course.
We will explore who the sorceresses were, what abilities they possessed, as well as the role they played in the age of Harald Bluetooth. And what later happened to them.
Lastly, we will create our own images of sorceresses, try our hand at sejd, the Viking Age's mysterious method of divination.
Duration: Approx. 1.5 hours
Price: 500 dkk per class
