THE TIMELINE

A WALK ACROSS THE PAST AND THE PRESENT

The Timeline is a hiking trail that invites you to explore the area of Køge North. The trail has been created with a basis in the extensive archaeological excavations that were done in preparation for the area's many new developments.

When an area changes so much, and so many new people move in, there is a need for new connections to the landscape, the place, and the history. The purpose of the trail is to create these new connections by fostering a close and active relationship with the history of the area, and in this way bridge the new and the old across Køge North.

The trail crosses 16 locations in the area, related to its history, and creates a new understanding of the familiar, encouraging deeper conversations about community, change, and the future. The trail doesn't have a set starting point, does not require visiting every locations during a hike, and you decide for yourself the route you take between the locations. The trail, and the digital platform, are free to use.

The Timeline was created with the kind assistance of the Velux Foundation and Køge Municipality

HOW TO USE THE TIMELINE

THE ROUTE
The Timeline doesn't have a set route or length. At every stop, you will be given two suggestions for where to go next, but you choose for yourself where to go and how to get there. The locations don't require you to visit them in any set order, and you can easily just visit one or two spots on your walk. Help take care of nature by using established paths and roads on your hike between locations.

THE MAP
In the digital platform you will find a map of the locations on the trail. This map will be your guide to Køge North, and can always be located via the red symbol on the side of the screen. On the map you will see all available stops on the route, and you can zoom in to find your way.

Locations
At each spot you will find a sign with a task and a QR-code. Each task is an enragement to spend time at the location and engage with the things you can see and experience there. By way of your smartphone, the QR-code can give you access to the digital platform, and provide knowledge about the history around you. The locations are geotagged, so if you've already opened the platform, the content will appear automatically for the stop you're at (provided you'e got location services turned on). You can also read the information on each spot from your armchair at home, but going for a walk in the landscape itself is a lot more fun.

DIGITAL PLATFORM
In the digital platform you will find a narrated story and pages with information, told through text and images.

The narrated stories give atmosphere and perspective to history - and question the future. They were created to encourage thought about your own place in history. The stories were recorded by local residents in Køge North in autumn 2024.

The informative pages are for those who want to delve deeper into the locations and their history. They open a PDF that you can save and read again if you want. In this way you can also see the images in higher resolution, and zoom to see the details better.
