ABOUT THE KITCHEN MUSEUM
Køge Museum is a living local history museum in the heart of Køge town, where you can experience Køge's rich past - from prehistoric times and the Viking Age to modern times. The museum invites the whole family to an exciting journey through the history of the town and the area through both permanent and changing exhibitions, stories and objects that put local development into perspective.
The museum is located in an atmospheric merchant's farm from 1619, which is one of Køge's oldest buildings. The farm bears witness to Køge's role as an important trading town with connections to both the Baltic Sea region and the rest of Europe. Over time, the building has had many functions – including as a merchant's farm, military warehouse and poorhouse – before it became a museum.
After several years of restoration and planning, Køge Museum opened its doors to a brand new museum on June 20, 2015. Behind the old walls, the city's history unfolds – from the Neolithic Age and the heyday of the Vikings to the bustling life of the market town. Here, both children and adults can explore archaeological finds, local stories and changing special exhibitions that provide a new perspective on the past.
There is also room to take a break in the museum's cozy courtyard - with a café and playground for children.
